CARSON, Calif. -- Steven Gerrard will make his first-ever start for the LA Galaxy on Saturday in their International Champions Cup match against Club America.

The match will be Gerrard's first game against Mexican opposition since suiting up against Mexico in a friendly prior to the 2010 World Cup. Despite the minimal exposure to Mexican teams, Gerrard has a high opinion of the nation's players.

"I know that they'll be very good technically, I know that they'll be sharp. they're fighters like all Mexican squads," Gerrard said. "They fight to the end and never give up. It'll be a good test but we're at home, and we're in good form as of late, and we want to build on it. We're going to take the game to the opposition."

As Gerrard prepares to make his first appearance for the club, the 35-year-old midfielder believes that his adaption to his new club is coming along.

“I’m getting to know the players very well. They’re getting to know me. I’ve been watching the game for afar for some time as well,” Gerrard said. “There are a lot of good players here, and good players adapt quickly. I’m looking forward to seeing the connections blossom.”
