Three things we learned from LA Galaxy II's 2-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2

CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides the Three Things That We Learned from LA Galaxy II’s 2-0 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2.

MIKE MUNOZ'S KIDS ARE ALRIGHT IN LOS DOS' FIRST MATCH

LA Galaxy II’s youth project started off on the right foot with a win and an impressive performance from Mike Munoz’s group.

Munoz’s squad looked spry throughout the contest as they pressured Vancouver high up the field and forced the visitors on their back foot for much of the game. Aggressive from the start, Galaxy II controlled the tempo and overwhelmed the visitors with their speed and clean passing.  On the defensive end, Galaxy II put forth a professional shift as they silenced the Whitecaps attack with goalkeeper Jon Kempin making three saves.

His first win as a professional head coach under his belt, Munoz and his team will now turn their attention to their first road fixture of the season on April 1 at San Antonio FC.

BAGGIO HUSIDIC GOES THE DISTANCE FOR GALAXY II

LA Galaxy stalwart Baggio Husidic received some valuable minutes in LA Galaxy II’s win on Saturday.

Husidic has seen limited minutes for the first team this season which led Galaxy boss Curt Onalfo to give him time in Los Dos’ season opener. The MLS veteran was a calming presence for the youthful Los Dos’ squad and helped set up the opener with a hopeful ball forward that was knocked into the back of the net by a Whitecaps defender.

With Sebastian Lletget dealing with a left foot injury, Husidic could be an option for Onalfo ahead of next week’s clash with Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

IAN LONERGAN STEADY IN FIRST LOS DOS APPEARANCE

Ian Lonergan might be an Academy player, but he did not look out of his depths in the LA Galaxy II’s victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

The Galaxy U-18 defender started at left back for Galaxy II who were shorthanded in defense without Josh Turnley or Robert Castellanos unavailable. In his first professional appearance, the 17-year-old youngster was solid as he helped lock down the flank and kept Whitecaps 2 off the board.

LA Galaxy II head coach Mike Munoz has stated that Academy players will get extended looks with Los Dos this season and Lonergan’s stint shows that the club’s young guns are ready for their chance.
