CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the Galaxy’s scoreless draw with Sporting Kansas City.
LA GALAXY OFFENSE PUNCHLESS IN DRAW
The LA Galaxy offered little going forward in Thursday’s dull scoreless draw with Sporting Kansas City.
Bruce Arena’s men registered just one shot in the scoreless performance. Throughout the match, the Galaxy’s attackers showcased little creativity and energy as they were stifled by an organized Sporting defense that neutralized all of their opportunities. The best chance of the evening came in the 56th minute when a Sebastian Lletget goal was called back due to an offside call that appeared to be incorrect.
The Galaxy will have more than two weeks to recover from their drab offensive performance and will hope that their attacking woes go by the wayside when they return to action later this month.
CLEAN SHEET OFFERS LONE BRIGHT SPOT
The LA Galaxy have been preaching the importance of earning a shutout in recent weeks, and they finally bagged one on Thursday night.
Los Angeles notched only their second shutout of the year when they kept Sporting Kansas City scoreless on Thursday evening. Chances were few and far between for Sporting as the visitors were held to just four shots on target by an organized Galaxy defense. When Kansas City did break through, Brian Rowe was there to make to make the stop with four saves in a strong showing.
As the team heads into the second half of the season, they’ll need to begin to rack up more shutouts if they’re going to compete for trophies.
GALAXY LIMP INTO COPA AMERICA BREAK
The LA Galaxy are heading into the Copa America Centenario break on a spell of a poor run of form.
The Galaxy’s scoreless draw with Sporting extended Los Angeles’ winless streak to four games. For a team that found themselves on a nine-game unbeaten run as early as last week, the recent performances will cause concern for the team heading into the break.
Los Angeles will need to turn their luck around on June 14 against La Maquina in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup. The Galaxy resume league play several days later on the road against Toronto FC.
