Three things we learned from the LA Galaxy’s 1-1 draw with San Jose Earthquakes

STANFORD, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the LA Galaxy’s 1-1 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes.

GALAXY ENDURE ANOTHER WILD ONE AT STANFORD STADIUM

The LA Galaxy just can’t seem to get a win at Stanford Stadium.

Once again, the Earthquakes found a goal against the Galaxy with late game heroics, this time coming from a Chad Barrett header in the 90th minute. The goal was a dagger for the Galaxy, who performed well defensively throughout the match only to succumb to another late hiccup that helped them drop points.

Los Angeles is now 1-3-1 all-time at Stanford Stadium. Luckily for the Galaxy, they won’t have to worry about getting back in the win column at Stanford for another year with their season series with the Quakes completed.

LA GALAXY SNAP SCORING STREAK

The LA Galaxy’s goal drought is officially over.

Los Angeles snapped their goalless streak at 371 minutes during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes. The goalless run ended in the 69th minute when Giovani dos Santos headed in a cross by Steven Gerrard to give the Galaxy their lone league goal of the month of June.

The end of the streak could not have come at a better time with the Galaxy likely to get back Gyasi Zardes—and possibly Robbie Keane—from international duty. Now if they can just break their now seven game winless streak…

STEVEN GERRARD’S PLAY ONE OF THE LONE BRIGHT SPOTS IN THE DRAW

The LA Galaxy were rightly dejected after their dropping points at Stanford Stadium, but the play of Steven Gerrard will give Bruce Arena a silver lining to take from Saturday’s draw.

Gerrard’s play was particularly inspired in the second half when the English midfielder was repeatedly able to find holes in the Earthquakes defense to exploit. The 35-year-old nearly found the back of the net himself in the 60th minute when a give-and-go between him and Mike Magee resulted in a shot for Gerrard that was saved by San Jose’s David Bingham.

The Galaxy’s midfield lynchpin finally helped the Galaxy find a goal in the 69th minute when his pinpoint pass to dos Santos was nodded into the back of the net by the Mexican international. If Gerrard can string together more strong performances like Saturday, it will suit the Galaxy well heading into the summer months.
