KANSAS CITY, KAN. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his “Three Things We Learned” from the Galaxy’s 1-1 draw with Sporting KC.
LA GALAXY SHOW THEIR CHARACTER IN TOUGH DRAW
The odds were stacked against the LA Galaxy in the second half of their 1-1 draw with Sporting Kansas City, but Bruce Arena’s men persevered and earned a well-deserved point away from home.
The Galaxy had plenty of momentum in the second half, but that was halted when Ashley Cole was sent off in the 69th minute after picking up a pair of yellow cards within the span of 30 seconds. Once Cole went off, the Galaxy turned to their veterans like A.J. DeLaGarza, Jeff Larentowicz, and Robbie Rogers to help grind out the match.
The moves paid major dividends as the Galaxy stood firm against the Sporting KC attack to earn the result. After struggling last season to grind out results, Sunday’s performance in Kansas City showcased a new hard-nosed Galaxy squad.
GIOVANI DOS SANTOS CAN’T STOP SCORING
Giovani dos Santos is en fuego.
Dos Santos scored for his third consecutive match in the Galaxy’s hard-fought draw with Sporting Kansas City on Sunday evening. The 26-year-old Mexican international now has four goals on the season and is tied with Gyasi Zardes for the team lead.
Dos Santos’ goal on Sunday night was a picture-perfect counterattack as Zardes sprinted up the field and then found the Mexican striker on the trot. The forward did the rest as he chipped Sporting goalkeeper Tim Melia to score the lone goal of the evening for Los Angeles.
MIKE MAGEE SHOWS OFF HIS ABILITIES AS A DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER.
Mike Magee hasn’t played midfield in nearly 10 years, but the wily veteran excelled when tasked with patrolling the midfield during Sunday night’s match against Sporting KC.
With Steven Gerrard out with a groin injury, Magee was tasked with shouldering the responsibilities in the midfield alongside Baggio Husidic. Despite not being particularly familiar with the position given his tendencies to play along the flanks or up top, Magee made several timely tackles and helped the Galaxy deal with a Sporting side content to overload the midfield.
Magee held down the middle until the 61st minute when natural defensive midfielder Jeff Larentowicz checked into the game.
