Three things we learned from the LA Galaxy’s 3-2 loss to the Montreal Impact

MONTREAL – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the Galaxy’s 3-2 defeat to the Montreal Impact.

ROWE MISTAKE LEADS TO GALAXY HEARTBREAK

On the final kick of the game, the LA Galaxy saw their nine-game unbeaten go up in smoke.

After a Daniel Steres foul gave the Impact a free kick in the dying moments of the match, Didier Drogba's swirling shot deflected off the hands of Brian Rowe and into the back of the net. The goal was an uncharacteristic mistake for Rowe, who had been solid throughout the match.

Rowe will need to put the miscue behind him as the Galaxy turn their attention to Thursday’s clash with Sporting Kansas City. Given Rowe’s strong season to date, the goalkeeper is will look to bounce back from Saturday’s miscue.

LA GALAXY STRUGGLE IN LOSS TO MONTREAL

It was a frustrating night at the office for the LA Galaxy.

After controlling play at the start of the match, leading to Giovani dos Santos’ opener, the Galaxy were unable to find the crucial second goal to double their lead. Despite creating numerous chances, LA were unable to find the back of the net, and were left vulnerable to Montreal’s speedy counter attack, which troubled the Galaxy throughout the match.

An inability to close out games has plagued the Galaxy throughout the 2016 campaign and Saturday’s defeat to Montreal will give head coach Bruce Arena plenty to think about as his team enters the summer months.

SILVER LINING? GIOVANI DOS SANTOS KEEPS ON SCORING

Giovani dos Santos did not shrink from the challenge of having to carry the LA Galaxy attack in the absence of Robbie Keane and Gyasi Zardes.

The Mexican striker opened the scoring with his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the eighth minute. Dos Santos’ goal is his sixth in seven games in addition to the forward’s five assists over the same period.

Despite some offensive struggles during the Galaxy’s draw, Dos Santos’ performance is a positive sign for a Galaxy team that will be without Keane and Zardes for the next month.
