LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Friday, Oct. 14, 2016) – The LA Galaxy announced today that the club has opened voting to fans to determine the 2016 LA Galaxy Player of the Year, presented by Herbalife Nutrition. Robbie Keane, Giovani dos Santos, Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole and Jelle Van Damme are the five nominees to win the club’s annual award for its top player.

Fans can vote for the 2016 LA Galaxy Player of the Year, presented by Herbalife Nutrition, at www.LAGalaxy.com/POTY. The award will recognize the player judged to be the most valuable to the club’s success during the MLS Regular Season. When voting, fans will also have the opportunity to win an exclusive VIP experience at an upcoming LA Galaxy playoff match, courtesy of Herbalife Nutrition.
The winner will be awarded with the trophy for the 2016 LA Galaxy Player of the Year, presented by Herbalife Nutrition, during the team’s final match of the regular season, on Sunday, Oct. 23 against FC Dallas at StubHub Center (1 p.m. PT, Spectrum SportsNet, Spectrum Deportes).
LA Galaxy media will vote to determine the LA Galaxy Defender of the Year. All team awards will be announced in advance of the Galaxy’s final match of the MLS Regular Season.
Nominees
Robbie Keane has scored 10 goals and added two assists this season, giving him five-straight seasons in MLS with 10 or more goals. Keane now has tallied 83 goals, 45 assists, 23 game-winning goals and 16 game-winning assists in just 125 MLS appearances.
Giovani Dos Santos has tallied 14 goals and 12 assists in 27 appearances this year for the Galaxy, making him just one of two MLS players to have recorded 10+ goals and 10+ assists on the season, joining 2015 MLS MVP Sebastian Giovinco. Dos Santos’ 14 goals rank 8th in MLS this year and 12 assists rank fourth.
In addition to his three goals, Steven Gerrard has tallied 11 assists in just 21 appearances this season, giving him one of the highest assists per 90 minutes in MLS. Gerrard also recorded a game-winning goal and game-winning assist during MLS play in 2016.
Ashley Cole, one of MLS’ top left backs, has made 24 starts in 25 appearances this year in MLS for the LA Galaxy. He joined before the start of the season after most recently playing for AS Roma in Italy.
Jelle Van Damme joined the Galaxy this offseason and has been arguably Major League Soccer’s top defender. He has made 27 appearances – all starts – this season.
