LA Galaxy Designated Player and captain Robbie Keane captained the Republic of Ireland to a 1-1 draw against England at Wembley Stadium in one of the most high-profile international friendlies played on Wednesday.

Keane, who only arrived in London from Los Angeles on Tuesday, went 66 minutes in his 124th appearance for his country before being subbed off for Simon Cox. The 32-year-old was coming off a hat-trick performance in MLS play against the Seattle Sounders on Sunday night.

The two sides exchanged first-half goals with the Republic of Ireland going ahead on a 13th-minute header by Shane Long. England equalized through former LA Galaxy DP target Frank Lampard, who netted 10 minutes later.

Keane, who was originally not scheduled to be released for the England friendly, has three more matches coming up: a June 2 friendly vs. Georgia in Dublin, a June 7 World Cup qualifier vs. Faroe Islands in Dublin and another friendly vs. Spain on June 12 in New York.
