CARSON, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy will be participating in the 2015 International Champions Cup North America this summer.
The Galaxy announced on Wednesday that they will be among 10 teams participating in the exhibition tournament that will run from July 11 to August 5. Joining the Galaxy in the competition are powers from around the world including FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Club America, and others. The specific matchups and venues will be announced on April 28.
After taking part in the inaugural ICC back in 2013, the Galaxy will be joined by two other MLS sides this time around as the New York Red Bulls and San Jose Earthquakes take part in the summer showcase. According to the release, each MLS team is guaranteed to host one match.
“The Galaxy are honored to once again be a representative of Major League Soccer against the world’s top teams in the International Champions Cup,” said LA Galaxy President Chris Klein in a statement. “This is the most storied and successful club in MLS and competing in this tournament gives our fans an opportunity to see the Galaxy face the most successful clubs from other leagues around the world. We are looking forward to continuing the tradition of bringing global soccer to Southern California this summer.”
The news of the Galaxy's participation in the ICC comes amid a Washington Post report that LA will host FC Barcelona at the Rose Bowl on August 1.
In other international friendly news, the MLS All-Stars will face off against Tottenham Hotspur on July 29 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. The MLS All-Star Game will be televised on Fox Sports 1 and UniMas in the United States.
