Three Points: LA Galaxy wilt in the Houston heat in 3-0 loss to the Dynamo

HOUSTON – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Points from the Galaxy’s 3-0 loss to the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium

HEAT BEATS THE GALAXY

The heat, humidity and a rampant Houston Dynamo attack were just too much for the LA Galaxy to handle during Saturday’s 3-0 defeat that saw LA’s two-game league winning streak snapped.

Despite controlling possession for wide stretches of the match, the Galaxy found themselves trailing in the ninth minute when Leonardo was unable to clear a Brad Davis cross, allowing it to fall perfectly for Will Bruin, who slotted his chance past Brian Rowe. In the 27th minute, Davis struck again, this time with a shot from distance that squeaked by the Galaxy ‘keeper. As LA tried to get back into the game, the relentless pressure of the Dynamo defense stifled a Galaxy attack that had scored nine goals in their past two games. The Dynamo added a third late on a chip from Leonel Miranda.

With the result, the Galaxy remain winless at BBVA Compass Stadium with a 0-3-0 record at the Downtown Houston venue. The Galaxy are also winless away from StubHub Center since August 20, 2014.

STEVEN GERRARD GETS HIS FIRST TASTE OF THE RIGORS OF MLS TRAVEL

Steven Gerrard received a rude welcome to life on the road in MLS as he braved the heat and humidity of Houston for 85 minutes in the LA Galaxy’s 3-0 defeat to the Dynamo.

Throughout the match, Gerrard was moved around the field, starting up top, and later being moved out wide right, and finally centrally in the final moments. No matter where he was stationed, however, the Dynamo’s high pressure prevented the Englishman from influencing the game in the same manner that we saw against San Jose.

Gerrard and the Galaxy will hope for a better performance next weekend when the defending MLS Cup champions travel to Colorado to face the Rapids, the site of the team’s last road victory in league play away from StubHub Center.

GALAXY II PLAYERS SUIT UP IN LOSS

On a more upbeat note, David Romney and Ariel Lassiter made history on Saturday by becoming the first LA Galaxy II players to suit up for the first team.

Loaned up from Los Dos, Romney became the first Galaxy II player to start for the first team, with a full 90-minute shift in the defeat. The 22-year-old defender, who was playing amateur soccer earlier this year, did not seem out of place as he made several timely blocks to keep the Dynamo from pressuring Rowe.

Lassiter’s appearance was briefer, as he came on late in the second half and went 19 minutes in the defeat. Stationed along the left side of midfield, Lassiter had a chance late to cut the Houston lead to one when he fired a dangerous shot that sailed just over the Dynamo net.
