CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015) – The LA Galaxy have transferred midfielder Juninho to Club Tijuana in Mexico’s Liga MX, the club announced today. Juninho, who joined the Galaxy in 2010, made 187 MLS Regular Season appearances during his six seasons with LA. Per MLS and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We thank Juninho for his contributions on and off the field during his time here,” said LA Galaxy Head Coach and General Manager Bruce Arena. “We wish him the best of luck with Tijuana.”
Juninho, 26, originally joined the Galaxy on loan from Brazil’s Sao Paolo in 2010 and signed with the club permanently ahead of the 2013 season. During his time in LA, the midfielder made 187 appearances and 180 starts, both which rank as the seventh-most in Galaxy history. The Brazilian also scored 18 goals and added 23 assists during his six years with the club while winning MLS Cup trophies in 2011, 2012 and 2014. In 2015, Juninho earned his first selection as an MLS All-Star.
The LA Galaxy will host Xolos at StubHub Center in a preseason exhibition on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. PT ahead of the start of the 2016 MLS season. The Galaxy kick off the 2016 MLS Regular Season at StubHub Center on Sunday, March 6, against D.C. United (7 p.m. PT, UniMás).
