CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy defender Robbie Rogers is steadily making is recovery from injury and is targeting this month for his return to action.
Rogers returned to training on Wednesday and trained again a day later in his first on-the-field work since undergoing arthroscopic ankle surgery in June. The 29-year-old has made 12 appearances for the Galaxy this season.
Although suffering the injury left Rogers frustrated, the left back is keeping a “positive mindset” as he moves closer to getting back in the lineup.
“I’m in light training. I’m playing as a neutral during the first half of training and working with [strength and conditioning coach] Daniel Guzman on the side doing fitness as well. I’m making my way. I feel like I’m 80 percent there, so I still need another two weeks to be back,” Rogers told LA Galaxy Insider. “I feel a lot better than I did before the surgery, and it’s nice to be able to run without pain.”
After more than a month away from the field, Rogers expects to be available for action in mid-August.
“That’s my goal. It’ll be perfect, and it’ll be about seven weeks,” Rogers said. “I’m trying to move forward because [injuries are] part of the game.”
