CARSON, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy announced on Tuesday that Jermaine Jones will don the No. 13 jersey for the LA Galaxy, most famously worn by club legend Cobi Jones.
Jones will be the first player to wear the jersey since his predecessor's retirement in 2007 after more than a decade with the club. The number was not officially retired by the Galaxy but has not been worn since he hung up his boots 10 years ago.
Both men took to Instagram to Tuesday to post about the announcement.
On his official account, Jermaine Jones stated that he was "honored to share [the No. 13] with such a historic and iconic player for the LA Galaxy."
Jermaine Jones' post was later followed by Cobi, who stated that it was he was "passing the torch" to a player with "stature and leadership" who will wear the kit with "honor."
