Midfielder Jonathan Hernandez has signed his first professional contract with LA Galaxy II, the club announced today. Hernandez, 20, signs after playing one year of college soccer at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif.

“We’re very excited to bring one of our own back into the organization,” said LA Galaxy II Head Coach Mike Muñoz. “Jonathan is a talented midfielder with a lot of potential, and we look forward to his development in our system.”

Hernandez, from Pasadena, Calif., joined the Academy in 2015 and was a member of Galaxy Academy’s inaugural 2016 high school graduating class, along with fellow Los Dos teammate Ethan Zubak. In his one year of college soccer, Hernandez tallied one goal and six assists for Mt. San Antonio, helping the team to its fifth CCCAA State Championship and being named to the Junior College Division III All-West Region Second Team along the way.

With Hernandez’s signing, nine of 15 players for LA Galaxy II are former members of the Galaxy Academy. In addition, nine former Academy members are currently signed to MLS contracts with LA Galaxy.

Los Dos return to action this weekend when they face Orange County SC at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 at Orange County Great Park. The match will be streamed live on LAGalaxy.com/2
