LA Galaxy goalkeeper Clement Diop called up to Senegal National Team

LA Galaxy goalkeeper Clement Diop has been named to the Senegal National Team roster for matches against Uganda and Equatorial Guinea. Senegal is set to face Uganda on Monday, June 5 in Dakar for a friendly match before a contest on Saturday, June 10 against Equatorial Guinea in a qualifying match for the Africa Cup of Nations. This marks Diop’s first call up to a senior international side.


The goalkeeper will depart from the Galaxy following the team’s match next Saturday, May 27 on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes. Diop will return to Los Angeles on June 11.


Diop, 23, joined LA Galaxy II in 2015 before signing an MLS contract with the LA Galaxy at the end of that season. During his time with the club, Diop has been a standout goalkeeper in the USL in addition to making seven starts for the LA Galaxy, including five starts this season, while making 29 saves in MLS play.


The Galaxy are in action this Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m. PT when they face Minnesota United FC on the road in what will be the first matchup between the two sides (ESPN, ESPN Deportes).
