Curt Onalfo provides an update on Jermaine Jones | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – Jermaine Jones could be available for selection as soon as this weekend’s clash with D.C. United.

Jones suffered a grade 2 MCL sprain in his right knee during the first half of the team’s 2-2 draw with the Chicago Fire on May 6. The 35-year-old returned to limited training on Tuesday and could return to action as soon as Saturday’s game in Washington, D.C.

“There is a possibility to be available this weekend depending on how his week goes,” Onalfo told reporters. “[Tuesday] was the first day that he was on the field and it was just partial training, so we need to see how that progresses throughout the week. It might be a little too close, but we’ll see how it is tomorrow.”

There could be a temptation for Onalfo to rest his 35-year-old central midfielder ahead of a bye week next week, but Onalfo is quick to note that the Galaxy will need the midfielder at his best ahead of a brutal stretch of games in June.

“It depends. If he’s 100 percent and can help us in a capacity and be available, then we’d certainly want that,” Onalfo said. “If not, we’ve got a bye week next week, but having said that, we’ve got a bunch of games coming up. Even though it’s a bye week, it’s important to get us ready for a difficult stretch.”
