Match Preview pres. by BeWaterWise: LA Galaxy look to advance to U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals against Sacramento Republic

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy will look to advance to the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals for the third consecutive year when they host Sacramento Republic at StubHub Center’s Track and Field Stadium (7:30 p.m. PT/Spectrum SN, Spectrum Deportes) on Wednesday.

The Galaxy advanced to the Round of 16 earlier this month when they defeated Orange County SC, 3-1 in the U.S. Open Cup fourth round. Los Angeles will have a Sacramento squad that shocked Real Salt Lake, 4-1 at Papa Murphy’s Park on June 14.

Both teams enter the match on a hot streak with results in nine of their last 10 matches across all competitions.

Against Orange County, Curt Onalfo rotated his squad, but with a trip to face the San Jose Earthquakes just three days later and several key injuries, Onalfo may not have that luxury.

“We had three days between the Open Cup game so it’ll be a little bit easier and you only have 18 healthy bodies. It’s no good,” defender Dave Romney said Saturday. “We’re going to play a lot of guys that we just played [Saturday] and we’re going to keep playing them [against San Jose].”

The winner of the Galaxy/Republic FC match will travel to face the winner of the Seattle Sounders FC/San Jose Earthquakes match.
