CARSON, Calif. – The sport of soccer is on the rise in the United States.

According to a recent Gallup poll, soccer’s rising popularity has the sport closing in on the big three of American sports (basketball, baseball, football). Per Gallup, soccer’s popularity has tripled in the last decade and presently ranks fourth among all sports.

Seven percent of U.S. adults surveyed stated that soccer was their favorite sport to watch for the poll conducted on Dec. 4 to Dec.11. The beautiful game’s popularity finished just two percent behind baseball and four percent behind basketball. For the first time since 2013, soccer polled ahead of ice hockey.

Much of the success of soccer is owed to its popularity among millennials. Presently, soccer is the second most popular spectator sport among those 18 to 34 years old. Also, soccer is the third most popular sport for 35 to 54 years old at 10 percent.
