Match Report: LA Galaxy fall 4-2 to San Jose Earthquakes in preseason friendly

IRVINE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes scored a three second-half goals to defeat the LA Galaxy 4-2 at Orange County Great Park on Saturday.

Ola Kamara notched a brace for Los Angeles, but goals by Chris Wondolowski, Fatai Alashe and a brace from Tommy Thompson gave the visitors the win. A total of 5,015 attended the preseason exhibition, setting a new attendance record at the Orange County venue.

Kamara opened the scoring in the 36th minute after a dish from Ema Boateng found the Norwegian striker alone on goal for the first-time finish. Los Angeles’ lead lasted just moments, however, after giveaway led to a Wondolowski shot that snuck past David Bingham.

Bingham’s bad luck continued in the 54th minute as the goalkeeper stopped a Wondolowski attempt only to have the ball deflect to Thompson who nodded it into the back of the net. Just two minutes later, the Quakes added to their advantage when a cross deflected off a Galaxy defender falling perfectly to Alashe for the finish from close range.

Los Angeles cut the lead to one in the 74th minute when Giovani dos Santos fed Ashley Cole down the left side. The Galaxy’s English full back then dished it across the goal mouth to a waiting Kamara for the goal.

The Galaxy wrap up their preseason next week with a friendly against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Feb. 24 at StubHub Center
