Match Preview presented by Welch's: LA Galaxy prepare for final preseason tuneup ahead of season opener

CARSON, Calif. – Sigi Schmid will have one final opportunity to get a look at his 2018 LA Galaxy squad this preseason when the LA Galaxy face off against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at StubHub Center.

The Galaxy are 2-3-0 this preseason, with defeats in their last two matches, including a 2-0 loss to Vancouver on Wednesday. Although Los Angeles have dropped their previous two contests, Schmid says his team must not despair about their recent performances.

“The problem that happens in life is that when you win, you turn the microscope the other way and everything seems far away,” Schmid said. “When you lose, everyone flips the microscope, and every problem seems like the biggest problem. Neither of the cases is true. Right now, we have to be honest with ourselves.

“We have to evaluate what we’ve done well. Our pressing has been good. Our offensive play has been very good times. And we also have to look at what we haven’t done well which is having some mental lapses. The urgency in our defending has to get better, and we also want our commitment to defending to improve.”

As the Galaxy boss seeks to finetune his group before the March 4 opener, Schmid expects to run a close to the first-choice squad on Saturday.

"We’re still evaluating. We’re still piecing together our lineup. We have good chunks together," Schmid said. "There are still some of the pieces, especially in the back that we’re looking to finalize. We’re going to make some decisions. Probably on Saturday, it’ll be reasonably close to the starting XI [for the season opener], but we’ll see.”
