LA Galaxy to face Portland Timbers in 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16

The LA Galaxy will travel to take on Portland Timbers in the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16, announced this morning at a live draw at U.S. Soccer in Chicago. The match will take place at 8 p.m. PT on Friday, June 15 at Providence Park.


The Galaxy advance to the next round after defeating FC Golden State Force in the 4th Round of the U.S. Open Cup, with a goal from Bradford Jamieson IV and a brace from Ariel Lassiter lifting LA to victory.

In 2016, the Galaxy traveled to Portland and defeated the Timbers in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16. LA earned a 1-0 win with a game-winning goal from Raul Mendiola.


The Galaxy have recorded a 34-17-0 all-time record in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. They have entered the Open Cup every year since 1999, winning the tournament in 2001 and 2005 while reaching the Open Cup Final on two other occasions. Last year, the Galaxy advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition before falling to the San Jose Earthquakes 3-2.


The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, recognized as U.S. Soccer's National Club Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. The tournament has crowned a champion for over 100 consecutive years dating from 1914. In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor American soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.


The LA Galaxy return to MLS Regular Season play at StubHub Center this weekend, as they face Real Salt Lake at 7:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, June 9 in a match presented by StubHub.
