Lineup Notes

  • Real Salt Lake and LA Galaxy square up for their second faceoff of the season in the Galaxy’s first trip to Salt Lake of 2018.
  • The DPs have returned to the 18 for the Galaxy, with Jonathan dos Santos getting the start and Giovani dos Santos and Romain Alessandrini listed on the bench.
  • In net, David Bingham will get his 28th start of the MLS Regular Season, playing every single minute between the pipes this year for the Galaxy. Bingham helped the Galaxy concede only one goal in their last contest (a penalty kick), a mark they hadn’t achieved in any of their six games prior to LAFC.
  • Dave Romney will continue in the backline for the Galaxy in what will be his 20th start of the 2018 season. Romney was LA Galaxy’s first-ever signing from LA Galaxy II and has quietly racked up 65 appearances since joining the club. He’s started in every game for the Galaxy since June.
  • In the middle is Michael Ciani, who returns from injury and is placed in the focal point of Sigi’s three-man backline. Ciani initially went down on Aug. 14, when he was subbed off at halftime.
  • On the left is Norwegian defender Jorgen Skjelvik, who joined the Galaxy this offseason and has gone on to start in every match this year, joining Bingham as the only two players to start in each game. Skjelvik, who has played left back extensively in his career with Rosenborg BK, should be in a comfortable position on the left side.
  • Full-time soccer player, full-time good looking guy Rolf Feltscher will make his third straight start after missing nearly four months of game action due to injury, as a right wing back today. Feltscher helped the Galaxy to concede no goals in the run of play against LAFC.
  • In the center of the field is Perry Kitchen, making his 26th start of the season. Kitchen returned to MLS this offseason with the Galaxy and has become a key member of the central midfield, most notably for hounding the opposition’s best attackers.
  • Alongside Kitchen is Servando Carrasco, who will make his third-straight start in the central midfield. Carrasco has made nine previous starts this year since joining the club this offseason. A pick-up in the supplemental draft, Carrasco has been a well-liked piece of depth for Sigi Schmid.
  • On the left is captain Ashley Cole. Cole has no problem stifling some of the league’s better attackers, as he did against LAFC’s Carlos Vela last week.
  • In the playmaking role in the middle of the field, Jonathan dos Santos who returns to action after getting injured in the Galaxy’s August 11 match against Minnesota United. Dos Santos will occupy the No. 10 role with his brother on the bench to start.
  • Playing at striker is forward Ola Kamara, who has one of the highest work rates on the team while playing off Zlatan.
  • Leading the way is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored against LAFC in his last match. At current, he is one goal away from reaching 500 goals from club and country.

Game Notes

  • The Galaxy are 10-9-8 on the year, with 49 goals scored and 48 goals conceded.
  • The Galaxy are 4th in MLS for goals scored this season.
  • This year on the road, the Galaxy have gone 4-5-4 and face a tough test with Real Salt Lake’s 9-1-3 home record.
  • The LA Galaxy defeated Real Salt Lake 3-0 in their only meeting so far this season. Zlatan Ibrahimović recorded two goals with Ola Kamara adding another.
  • LA Galaxy forward Zlatan Ibrahimović is just one goal shy of scoring 500 career senior goals between club and country.
    • Should Ibrahimovic score two goals, he would join Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the only two active players to reach 500 goals in their senior career.
  • The Galaxy are 3-1-5 when leading at halftime and 6-1-6 when scoring the first goal of the match.
  • Conversely, they are 4-6-1 when trailing at half and 4-8-1 when conceding first this year.
  • With a win, the Galaxy can tie RSL in the MLS Western Conference Standings. All other teams in the Western Conference have 1-2 games in hands over RSL and the Galaxy.
