Match Report: LA Galaxy II fall in disappointing result to OKC Energy FC

LA Galaxy II (9-14-6, 33 points) fell 3-1 to OKC Energy FC (11-14-5, 38 points) at StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium on Wednesday night. Los Dos opened the scoring in the match, but OKC earned the comeback win with three unanswered goals.

Los Dos were the more imposing team at the match’s beginning, wearing out the grass on OKC Energy FC’s end for the first quarter of the contest. Frank Lopez slyly earned a penalty in the 12th minute of the match and banked his take off the right post to give LA Galaxy II the early lead.

One casual possession in the 40th minute went awry for Los Dos, when a turnover led into a three-on-two breakaway. OKC executed, with José Barril being the one to get his name on the scoresheet. A kick save from LA Galaxy II’s Eric Lopez in the extra-time of first half helped Galaxy keep things level headed into the break.

But momentum shift was complete at halftime, with Los Dos unable to regain the dominance they had shown in the match’s first 25 minutes.

In the 72nd, lax defending from Los Dos allowed OKC’s Phillip Rasmussen to volley home the game-winner. Eight minutes later, Alex Dixon iced the match after OKC quickly passed their way into the LA Galaxy II end.

The match put a severe dent in LA Galaxy II’s playoff hopes. With a win, Los Dos would have leaped to 10th in the USL Conference. With the loss, Los Dos are now 10 points off 8th place, sitting at 13th in the conference with just four games to play. LA Galaxy II are back in action this weekend, taking on Reno 1868 FC at 7:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Greater Nevada Field.
