Mike vs. OKC Energy

LA GALAXY II HEAD COACH MIKE MUÑOZ

On how the team came out in the match:
“The guys have been extremely confident lately – playing and competing in different ways whenever the game requires. I was very happy with the first 20-25 minutes. I thought it was some of the best soccer that we’ve played all season. We were hoping that we would get that second and third goal to get that kind the chance to stay on top of OKC or put the game away early. We definitely had chances, but then unfortunately one or two plays where we would shut off in transition or we would make a mistake and slowly they were able to gain momentum and get back into the game. And obviously when they scored was right before halftime and put them on top again.”

On the second half strategy:
“That was the message at halftime. They are going to get on top of us. They’re going to try and press us high. It was a game of territory where we wanted to get the game in their half. We wanted to possess in their half, press in their half. They wanted the opposite. I thought they won the territorial battle in the second half where we just couldn’t build and break their first or second line of pressure. It was obviously difficult with the two forwards up top to get them any kind of service that they needed to succeed.”

On the quick turnaround and how the result affects the team’s outlook on the season:
“The guys are disappointed right now in the locker room. They’ve worked really hard to get to this point. We all knew how big of a game this was against OKC. They knew how big of a game this was for them. We were neck and neck. We’re disappointed tonight, but we’re back in tomorrow with a massive game against Reno on Saturday. We’ll be ready.”
