Match Report: LA Galaxy II couldn't find a result against Reno 1868 FC

LA Galaxy II (9-15-6, 33 points) fell 1-0 to Reno 1868 FC (12-7-9, 45 points) at Greater Nevada Field on Saturday night.

LA Galaxy II looked fairly stagnant in attacking chances during the first 45 minutes. Their best attempt on goal came early in the half when Efrain Alvarez threaded Frank Lopez a brilliant through ball to start a break away. Lopez pulled it back for Alvarez who took a left-footed shot that went just wide of goal.

But Los Dos entered halftime down a goal after Reno 1868 FC converted on a scoring opportunity. In the 37th minute, Reno’s Eric Calvillo rocketed a right-footed shot from well outside the box into the top left corner of Eric Lopez’s net to score the only goal of the night.

A battle of possession ensued throughout the second half, but not much changed for LA Galaxy II. The most dangerous chance came after Diedie Traore made a run down the side of the box and rolled a low cross just in front of the keeper’s goal. The cross was intended for Frank Lopez, but he was unable to connect. However, Los Dos were able to keep Reno 1868 at bay earning a second half shut out.

The result put a significant dent in LA Galaxy II’s playoff hopes. With a win, Los Dos would have leaped to 11th in the USL Western Conference. With the loss, Los Dos are now 12 points off 8th place, sitting at 13th in the conference with just four games remaining in the regular season. LA Galaxy II are back in action next weekend, hosting Real Monarchs SLC at 7:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, Sept. 22 at StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium for Back to School Night.
