Match Preview: vs. Real Monarchs

Match Preview: LA Galaxy II return home to host Real Monarchs SLC

LA Galaxy II (9-15-6, 33 points) head home to host Real Monarchs SLC (17-10-3, 54 points) at 7:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, Sept. 22 at StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Tickets to the match are available here.

LA Galaxy II vs. Real Monarchs SLC

LA Galaxy II will look to find a result at home to reverse their momentum after a disappointing outcome on the road against Reno 1868 FC (12-7-9, 45 points). In the match, Los Dos were unable to turn up their usual attacking prowess after going down a goal in the 37th minute. Reno held onto the lead to secure a 1-0 victory over LA Galaxy II.

The result put a dent in the team’s hopes of reaching post-season play. LA Galaxy II are now 12 points off 8th place, sitting in 13th in the USL Western Conference with just four games remaining in the regular season. After Saturday, LA Galaxy II will host Sacramento Republic FC for their final home game in the 2018 season. Los Dos will travel for two more away games against Seattle Sounders FC 2 and Swope Park Rangers.

Los Dos face a Real Monarchs side that sit top of the table in the Western Conference. However, after a tough stint of games, the Monarchs have not been able to clinch their playoff spot. Since the teams last played each other on August 25, Real Monarchs have only secured one point. Most recently, the team is coming off a difficult loss on the road against Orange County SC. In that match, Real Monarchs took the lead early, but were not able to hang on, resulting in a 5-2 defeat.

LA Galaxy II will also host a Back to School Night to celebrate local students’ return to the classroom. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a voucher for a free LA Galaxy lunch bag. After the match, fans can head to the sales booth to claim their free lunch bag.

Orange County SC 5 | Real Monarchs SLC 2: The Monarchs were on the board first, but conceded two goals within a minute just before halftime. Although able to equalize, Real Monarchs couldn’t hang on as OCSC scored three more goals in the final 15 minutes of the match.
