The LA Galaxy Foundation welcomed over 100 high school female athletes to attend the inaugural LA Galaxy High School Girl’s Summit presented by Southern New Hampshire University at StubHub Center on Saturday, October 13th. Partnering with Southern New Hampshire University, this free event invited female athletes from local school districts and at-risk communities for brunch and the opportunity to meet with former collegiate athletes and female executives from the Los Angeles sport and entertainment industry.
An opening panel discussed life as a young professional, exposing these future leaders to their own personal experiences while providing their do’s and don’ts regarding college preparation and readiness. Following the panel, student athletes underwent a Positive Coaching Alliance workshop promoting “Better Athletes, Better People” led by Long Beach local and former UCLA collegiate softball player, Marti Reed. Attendees were then able to meet with the mentors in small groups and learn what it takes to be a powerful woman in the sports and entertainment industry. AEG Presents, Los Angeles Lakers, StubHub Center and the Galaxy were just some of the organizations represented at the event.
“This event brought together our community partners and invaluable network of female leaders in the sport and entertainment world which allowed for our mentors to share their personal stories of failures, triumphs and resiliency that has ultimately led them to their professional passion,” said Celeste Soto, LA Galaxy Foundation Senior Manager.
Amanda Carmichael, Co-Founder of ONE Softball and Executive Board Member of Women In Sports and Events (WISE) Los Angeles, concluded the event by calling upon those in attendance to continue to dream big and aspire to make a positive impact in their community.
A coffee cart and photo-booth were manned by employees from ICAN, a local non-profit that provides employment programs for adults with physical and developmental disabilities.
The LA Galaxy High School Girl’s Summit was a continuation of the LA Galaxy’s Women’s Leadership Series which empowers female student-athletes with knowledge and opportunities to inspire the next generation of leaders in Los Angeles.
