LA Galaxy II have signed defender Michael Gallagher to a USL contract, pending league and federation approval, the club announced today. Gallagher, 24, joins Los Dos after two seasons with Real Monarchs SLC.
“Michael brings a good amount of experience and leadership into our team,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese. “He is a smart player. We are excited about his future within our club and look forward to providing him with opportunities for growth.”
Born in Sammamish, Wash., Gallagher signed his first professional contract with Portland Timbers 2 ahead of the 2016 USL regular season and logged 24 appearances that season. In 2017, Gallagher was signed by Real Monarchs SLC. Last season with the Monarchs, he appeared in 19 games, making 15 starts. In his USL career, Gallagher has totaled 58 appearances, 47 starts and one assist.
Before signing his first professional contract, Gallagher played four seasons at University of Washington, totaling 69 appearances, 61 starts, three goals and two assists. He helped lead the Huskies to the NCAA tournament three times (2012, 2013, 2014). While at the University of Washington, he also played in the Premier Development League (PDL) with the Sounders FC U-23s and Washington Crossfire during the summer months between college seasons.
Gallagher played club soccer for Crossfire Premier U-16 in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy during the 2009-10 season. Following that season, Gallagher was the starting center back and captain with the Seattle Sounders FC U-16 and U-18 teams in 2010 and 2011.
