Match Report: LA Galaxy II fall to Reno 1868 FC on the road

Match Report vs. RNO

LA Galaxy II (4-6-6, 18 points) fell 4-2 on the road to Reno 1868 FC (6-3-5, 23 points) on Saturday evening in Reno, Nev.

LA Galaxy II opened the scoring early in the match when Reno’s Zach Carroll was called for a handball in the penalty area, which resulted in a Los Dos penalty kick. Frank Lopez stepped up to spot and converted the penalty with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner in the 3rd minute, beating out Reno’s goalkeeper Matt Bersano.

Reno 1868 FC quickly responded to going down, scoring two goals of their own within six minutes of each other thanks to Corey Hertzog and Daniel Musovski. But LA Galaxy II got the last word of the first half. John Requejo made a great run down the left side and sent a brilliant long ball into the box. Augustine Williams directed Requejo’s ball on goal with a diving header. With the goal, the sides entered halftime with two goals apiece.

After coming out very strong in the second half, Los Dos lost steam after Reno scored another pair of goals within five minutes in the 60th and 65th minutes. The Galaxy’s prospects for getting another goal slipped further away when Omar Ontiveros was shown a second yellow in the 80th minute. Los Dos played the remaining 10 minutes plus stoppage time with ten men.

Next up, LA Galaxy II return home to host USL Championship expansion side New Mexico United at Dignity Health Sports Park Track & Field Stadium on Saturday, June 22 at 7 p.m. PT. Tickets to the match are available here.
