LA Galaxy Champion Project Friday Night Soccer Celebration

On Friday, August 23rd the LA Galaxy Foundation hosted LA Galaxy Champion Project schools for “Friday Night Soccer” at Dignity Health Sports Park.  Students from eleven Carson elementary schools and their families were treated to a fun night filled with soccer, music, food trucks and giveaways. The students kicked off the new school year with soccer programming from LA Galaxy Camps & Clinics coaches where they practiced their soccer skills.

LA Galaxy Champion Project partners, Playworks Southern California and Garden School Foundation showcased their programming at the event with various activities. During the soccer clinic, Playworks took lead on one of the stations and taught an interactive lesson to the students on encouraging their peers when playing. As a benefit to LA Galaxy Champion Project Schools, the LA Galaxy Foundation will look to add recess programming through Playworks into the eleven Carson elementary schools.

After playing soccer for 90-minutes, students were able to make flower bracelets and seed packets with Garden School Foundation educators. By the end of the event, students had wearable jewelry and sustainable bags to take home with them. This school year, the LA Galaxy Foundation and Garden School Foundation will continue to provide educational garden-based education at Leapwood Avenue Elementary School and Annalee Avenue Elementary School.

As dinnertime approached, Chancho’s Taco truck and Kinecta’s ice cream truck were able to provide students and their families complimentary tacos and ice cream to keep them fueled throughout the clinic.  First Team Academy, a tennis academy contributed a space where students could learn about tennis and practice playing with their classmates. In addition, LA Kings Ice Crew and LA Galaxy Star Squad provided all the guests with giveaways and prizes to take home.

As the new school year begins, the LA Galaxy Foundation will continue the LA Galaxy Champion Project to provide soccer programming and opportunities to grow the game of soccer while promoting health, wellness and leadership development throughout Carson elementary schools.
