LOS ANGELES (Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019) – The LA Galaxy announced today that Giuseppe Guastella, the club’s first eMLS player, will return for his third season with the club. Known by his gamertag GGGodfather, Guastella, a five-time FIFA Interactive World Championship finalist, is one of the world’s top FIFA competitive players and will compete to qualify for the 2020 FIFA eClub World Cup.
“I am excited to return to represent the LA Galaxy for my third season,” said Guastella. “Thanks to all the Galaxy fans and my followers for their continued support.”
Since he entered the competitive FIFA scene in 2009, Guastella has enjoyed a prolific career, including winning the 2009 FIFA Interactive World North American Championship and a top-four finish at the 2012 FIWC in Dubai. Additionally, he won the North American championship at the 2016 AT&T MLS All-Star Game and won gold in 2017 at the FUT Americas Championships in Vancouver.
“We made him an offer he can’t refuse,” said LA Galaxy Sr. Director of Digital Media & Marketing Chris Thomas. “That’s a line from the movie The Godfather. But we also did make a good offer and we’re excited to have him return to represent our club.”
In 2018, the LA Galaxy formed their first-ever eSports team to participate in eMLS, the first competitive league for EA Sports FIFA in North America.
The 2020 season will begin this January with the eMLS League Series presented by PlayStation®, two majors in the lead up to eMLS Cup. Each League Series tournament is live-streamed with their own trophy lift and prizing opportunities. During these tournaments, eMLS players will also accumulate points to determine seeding for eMLS Cup. League Series One will be held in Philadelphia in conjunction with the Philadelphia Union while League Series Two will be held in Portland in conjunction with the Portland Timbers. The eMLS season will conclude in March in Austin, Texas when SXSW hosts eMLS Cup presented by PlayStation® alongside its premier gaming portion of the conference.
