LA Galaxy II remain at Dignity Health Sports Park for their third-straight home match to open the 2021 USL Championship Regular Season with a Mother’s Day matchup against the Tacoma Defiance at 5 p.m. PT. This year, Los Dos are now 1-0-1 (W-D-L) with three points, five goals scored and just one conceded for a +4 goal differential.
In all, LA are 3-3-3 vs. Tacoma all time, earning a 2-2 draw in 2020 in their most recent contest in May of 2019. This marks Tacoma’s opening match of the 2021 season.
Los Dos are coming off one of their most dominant wins, a 5-0 thrashing of Las Vegas Lights at DHSP on Wednesday evening that featured five different goal scorers on the night, as Kai Koreniuk, Daniel Aguirre, Jorge Hernandez and Preston Judd all tallied for Los Dos while Las Vegas also notched an own goal. LA Galaxy II featured five first-team players in the starting XI on Wednesday evening: Justin Vom Steeg, Marcus Ferkranus, Jonathan Perez, Augustine Williams and Kai Koreniuk.
In 2020, Los Dos finished the regular season 8-6-2 with 26 points (4-3-1 at home and 4-3-1 on the road), earning them second place in Group B standings and clinching a berth in the USL Championship Playoffs for the second-straight season.
Head Coach Junior Gonzalez holds a 16-12-6 record throughout his head coaching tenure with LA Galaxy II and has led the team to two-consecutive playoff appearances. In the seven years of USL Championship competition, Los Dos have qualified for playoffs five times, in addition to a USL Western Conference Championship in 2015.
United Soccer League will feature 31 teams set to play 496 regular season contests over 28 weeks ahead of the 2021 USL Championship Playoffs that begin in November. The opening weekend begins a 32-game regular season for every club in the league that will see each team in both the Eastern and Western Conferences play its division opponents four times – twice home, twice away.
The regular season will conclude on Saturday, October 30 with 15 contests that will see the final playoff places and seeding decided ahead of postseason.
LA Galaxy II will compete in the USL Championship Western Conference Pacific Division for the 2021 campaign alongside the following clubs: Las Vegas Lights FC, Oakland Roots SC, Orange County SC, Phoenix Rising FC, Sacramento Republic FC, San Diego Loyal SC and Tacoma Defiance.
