CARSON, Calif. – Robbie Keane is expected to recover from right knee surgery in time to participate in the Republic of Ireland’s 2016 European Championship campaign according to LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena.

The 35-year-old underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee last week after returning from international duty with the Irish. Keane missed both of Ireland’s friendlies last week after suffering the injury during the Galaxy’s win over the San Jose Earthquakes on March 19.

Although there had been some worries from the Irish camp that Keane might not make it to full fitness in time for the tournament, Arena was quick to put those worries to rest.

“He needed it; he had some loose pieces in his knee and needed to have those removed. It’s a fairly normal [occurrence],” Arena told reporters. “It’s cartilage and a lot of players have some type of issue with their knees at some point. He should be fine. I’d say in close to a month, he’ll be back to full speed.”
