LOS ANGELES (August 7, 2026) – The LA Galaxy announced today that the club has acquired forward Hirving “Chucky” Lozano on loan as a Designated Player through December 2026, with a permanent trade option. Lozano joins the Galaxy following his time with San Diego FC, PSV Eindhoven of the Eredivisie, Napoli of Italy’s Serie A and C.F. Pachuca of Mexico’s Liga MX. The forward has tallied over 129 goals for club and country.
“Hirving is a player whom we tried to acquire three years ago, so this feels like something of a full circle moment. He is a fierce competitor with an excellent track record of performing on teams that have competed for titles in multiple leagues, including his debut season in MLS," said Will Kuntz, General Manager, LA Galaxy. Lozano, 31, joins the LA Galaxy after spending one season with San Diego FC as the club's first-ever Designated Player signing. Prior to his arrival in Major League Soccer, the former Mexican National Team forward developed through the Pachuca academy, where he rose to the first team and recorded 43 goals and 31 assists in 149 appearances across all competitions. During his time with Pachuca, Lozano helped the club capture the Liga MX Clausura title in 2016 and the 2016–17 Concacaf Champions League, in which he earned the Golden Boot with his competition leading 8 goals.
Following his success in Mexico, Lozano made the move to Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, where he established himself as one of Europe's most dynamic attackers. During his first stint with the club, he tallied 40 goals and 23 assists while helping PSV claim the Eredivisie title in 2017–18. His performances earned a high-profile transfer to Serie A side Napoli, where he registered 30 goals and 17 assists in 155 appearances and played a key role in delivering the club's first Scudetto in more than three decades during the 2022–23 campaign.
Lozano, widely known as “Chucky,” returned to PSV in 2023 and continued to add to his decorated résumé, contributing 11 goals and five assists while helping the club secure back-to-back Eredivisie titles in 2023–24 and 2024–25. He then joined San Diego FC ahead of its inaugural 2025 MLS season, recording 20 goal contributions in 33 appearances before making the move to the LA Galaxy.
Lozano made his senior debut for the Mexican National Team in 2016, recording an assist in a 2-0 victory over Senegal in his first appearance. Since then, he has earned more than 70 caps and contributed 18 goals and 12 assists for his country. One of the defining moments of his international career came at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, when his goal against Germany secured a historic victory over the defending world champions. Across his international career, Lozano has represented Mexico in some of the sport’s biggest competitions, including the 2016 Copa América, the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, the Concacaf Nations League, the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, and the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups and won the Concacaf Player of the Year award in 2018.
