Highlights from David Bingham's career in MLS

The LA Galaxy have acquired 28-year-old goalkeeper David Bingham’s right of first refusal from the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for $100,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) and $100,000 in Targeted Allocation Money (TAM), the club announced today.

The 2016 MLS All-Star selection has played seven seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes, making 95 starts and accruing 27 shutouts and 288 total saves while earning a 1.24 goals against average (GAA) throughout his career, the seventh-best among any active goalkeeper in Major League Soccer.

Bingham signed with MLS as a Generation adidas player following the 2011 MLS SuperDraft before landing in San Jose after a weighted lottery on Jan. 26, 2011. He spent a brief period on loan with Norwegian side Strømmen IF in 2014 before earning a starting position with the Earthquakes in 2015. In two consecutive seasons, Bingham started all 34 games in net for San Jose, finishing both years among the league’s best in various categories. In 2015, he broke Pat Onstad’s club record with 12 shutouts in a single-season and earned MLS All-Star honors in 2016.

Internationally, Bingham has earned three caps with the U.S. Men’s National Team, making his debut in a 1-0 shutout victory over Canada on Feb. 6, 2016 at StubHub Center. He also made appearances in friendly contests against New Zealand and Jamaica.

The Pleasanton, California product attended University of California from 2007-2010. In his senior season, he earned eight shutouts in 20 matches as the starting goalkeeper at California in 2010, leading Cal to a 14-2-4 record and a spot in the final eight of the 2010 NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament. Bingham also earned honors as NSCAA All-America during his junior season, posting a 0.77 goals-against average that year.
