LA Galaxy center back and captain Maya Yoshida has been named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday for Matchday 26 after his stoppage time (90+7th minute) equalizer against LAFC to secure a 3-3 draw.
Yoshida’s goal was his first of the 2025 season and is the latest goal scored (96:53) in 26 all-time league matches played between the LA Galaxy and LAFC, surpassing the previous latest goal scored by Carlos Vela (96:11; 07/19/2019 – LAFC 2 at LA Galaxy 3).
Meanwhile, forward Gabriel Pec was named to the bench for MLS Team of the Matchday after his brace, consisting of a penalty kick in the 36th minute and first-time strike to cut LAFC’s lead to 3-2 in the 79th minute.
The Team of the Matchday selection for Yoshida is his first since earning the honor for his Matchday 29 performance against Atlanta United on August 24, 2024, when he and Marco Reus were both given the nod.
Yoshida, who joined the Galaxy in 2023, re-signed with the Galaxy ahead of the 2025 season after captaining the club to their sixth MLS Cup title.
