LA Galaxy II Year in Review: Forwards

LA Galaxy II’s 60 goals scored during the 2018 campaign flew into opponents’ nets at the rate of a goal every 51 minutes. By nearly doubling their 32 goals scored from 2017, Los Dos finished 6th overall in the USL for goals scored, and third in USL’s Western Conference. The team sported the second highest goal conversion rate in the league.

Los Dos were USL Western Conference leaders in scoring throughout much of the season, thanks in part to Frank Lopez. Lopez signed his first professional contract with LA Galaxy II before the start of the 2018 campaign. During the season, he scored 13 goals, which culminated in a five-game scoring streak from July 28 to August 18. Because of these numbers, Lopez was awarded the LA Galaxy II Golden Boot. Lopez’s impressive debut season placed him among the top 15 goal scorers in the USL and top 10 in the Western Conference.

Right behind Lopez in goals scored is team veteran Ethan Zubak. Signed to Los Dos in 2016 from the LA Galaxy Academy, Zubak has continued to grow as a leader of the team. During the 2018 campaign, Zubak scored 11 goals and provided two assists. Zubak’s performance earned him the No. 2 spot on the USL 20 Under 20 list, which ranks the best U-20 players in the league. Only his teammate, Efrain Alvarez, beat him out for first place.
