WATCH: Highlights of new LA Galaxy defender Emiliano Insúa

LOS ANGELES (Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020) – The LA Galaxy have signed Argentine defender Emiliano Insúa, the club announced today.

Insúa, 30, joins the club after a decorated career in Europe representing teams in England, Turkey, Spain, Portugal and Germany, most recently playing for German side VfB Stuttgart. He will be added to the club’s roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa and will occupy an International roster spot.

“Emiliano is an experienced defender who has played for decorated clubs throughout the world,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese. “We think he will boost our team on the defensive side and will add a veteran presence to our club. We are glad to add Emiliano to our team and are excited that he will represent the LA Galaxy.”

Emiliano began his career with Argentina’s Boca Juniors before a move to Liverpool in England. Since 2007, the defender has also represented Galatasaray (Turkey), Sporting CP (Portugal), Atlético Madrid (Spain), Rayo Vallecano (Spain) and VfB Stuttgart (Germany), while capturing a La Liga title (2013-14), Copa del Rey (2012-13), a 2. Bundesliga title (2016-17) in addition to winning the U-20 World Cup with Argentina (2007).

Insúa joins the club from Stuttgart, where he played since 2015, enjoying the longest stretch of his career. In 2017, his side captured the 2.Bundesliga title in 2017 to be promoted back to Bundesliga after they were relegated in 2016. He made 125 appearances for the club during his time in Germany.

Internationally, Insúa has represented various Argentina youth sides and made five appearances for the senior Argentina National Team. In 2007, he helped lead his side to the FIFA U-20 World Cup title.

Insúa and the five-time MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy’s 2020 home opener is set for Saturday, March 7 at Dignity Health Sports Park against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at 7 p.m. PT.
