LOS ANGELES (August 8, 2026) – The LA Galaxy announced today that the club has signed midfielder Sergi Roberto as a free agent through June 30, 2028, with an option for the 2028-2029 season, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa. Roberto joins the Galaxy following two seasons with Como 1907 in Italy’s Serie A that succeeded a decorated 18-year career with FC Barcelona in Spain. The former Spanish National Team midfielder has earned more than 400 appearances for club and country and won 25 trophies during his time in Barcelona. He will occupy an International Slot on the Galaxy roster.

Roberto, 34, arrives after two campaigns in Italy’s Serie A with Como 1907 in which he recorded a goal and an assist in 37 appearances across all competitions. He made his move to the Italian club in August 2024 after its promotion to Serie A and contributed to a top 10 finish in Como’s return to the topflight. In 2025–26, Roberto was part of the side that earned the first UEFA Champions League qualification in Como 1907’s history. He also scored in Como’s 3-1 win over Fiorentina, which secured the club’s first appearance in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals in 40 years.
Prior to joining Como, Roberto spent his entire professional career with FC Barcelona, beginning with the club's renowned La Masia academy at age 14. The Reus, Spain native made his debut for the first team in a Copa del Rey win over Ceuta on November 10, 2010, before establishing himself as a first-choice option in both the midfield and at right back. In total, he registered 19 goals in 373 first-team appearances across all competitions in his Barcelona career and wore the captain’s armband for the club during the 2023–24 season.
Roberto’s time with Barcelona produced seven La Liga championships, six Copa del Rey titles, six Spanish Super Cups, two UEFA Champions League trophies, two FIFA Club World Cups, and two UEFA Super Cups. He ultimately secured a lasting place in Barça’s history on March 8, 2017, when his decisive stoppage-time goal against Paris Saint-Germain completed a 6-1 victory and one of the most dramatic second-leg comebacks in UEFA Champions League history.
Notably, the signing reunites Roberto with current LA Galaxy midfielder Riqui Puig, his former teammate at FC Barcelona from 2018-2022. In four seasons together at Barça, the two shared the locker room during the club’s 2018-19 La Liga title run and were both a part of the team that won the 2020-21 Copa del Rey.
Roberto made his senior international debut for Spain in a scoreless draw against Romania on March 27, 2016. He has earned 11 caps and scored one goal for La Roja, finding the back of the net in an 8-0 victory over Liechtenstein during 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying. Roberto also represented Spain at the U-17, U-19, U-20 and U-21 levels and helped the country earn a third-place finish at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
