LA Galaxy sign forward Ola Kamara to three-year contract

The LA Galaxy have signed forward Ola Kamara to a three-year contract, the club announced today. Kamara, 28, joined the Galaxy through a trade with Columbus Crew SC in January. He scored 34 goals in the previous two MLS seasons, the fourth most of any player.

“We are excited that Ola will remain with the LA Galaxy in the coming years,” said LA Galaxy Head Coach Sigi Schmid. “He has proven himself to be one of the most productive forwards in MLS over the past two seasons and we are confident that will continue as a member of our club. We look forward to him being a focal point in our offense.”

This year, Kamara has made four starts for the Galaxy, scoring in his debut game at StubHub Center. He scored 34 goals in 59 appearances during his two seasons with the Crew, originally joining the club as a Discovery Signing in February 2016. The Norwegian striker scored 18 goals in the 2017 MLS campaign, finishing fifth among all goal scorers in MLS that season. He finished eighth during the 2016 season, with 16 goals that year.

Only David Villa, Diego Valeri and Bradley Wright-Phillips have scored more goals in the previous two campaigns. Kamara, Villa, Wright-Phillips, Diego Valeri, Sebastian Giovinco and Ignacio Piatti are the only players in MLS to finish top ten in goals in both the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Kamara made the move to MLS in 2016 after playing for Molde FK in the Norwegian topflight on loan from FK Austria Wien. Kamara has also spent time with other European clubs, including TSV 1860 München (Germany), Strømsgodset (Norway), Hønefoss (Norway) and Stabaek (Norway). Kamara began his professional career with Stabaek at the age of 16.

Internationally, Kamara has made 10 appearances for the Norwegian National team, debuting for his country on Oct. 11, 2013. Most recently, he scored a hattrick for Norway in a friendly contest against Australia, leading his team to a 4-1 win late last month.
