The LA Galaxy Special Olympics Unified Team, presented by Herbalife, swept the competition on Sunday, July 20, winning all three games in the first-ever MLS Special Olympics Unified Tournament in Los Angeles.
Fresh off a 2-1 win over LAFC on Tuesday, July 15 at BMO Stadium, LA Galaxy faced three California teams, including LAFC, across the one-day event. With the weekend sweep, the team is now 5-1 in the 2025 season.
The Galaxy started the tournament with a come-from-behind win against Sac Republic. After conceding the opening goal of the game, the Galaxy took a 2-1 lead into halftime through goals by Luc Esquibel and Gerardo Guzman before Matthew Torres and Caleb Terhune scored a pair of second-half goals to secure a 4-1 win.
Next up was a rematch against LAFC. Just like the last matchup with their crosstown rivals, the game stayed close, with Torres’ first-half goal the only goal of the game, giving the Galaxy a 1-0 victory.
The final match was against the San Jose Earthquakes. Similarly to the first game, the Galaxy trailed in the first half before taking the lead into halftime. Terhune, Torres, and Giber Camacho each scored a goal for a 3-1 lead at the break before San Jose cut into the lead on the other side of the half. However, the Galaxy closed the door on an Earthquakes comeback thanks to goals by Guzman and Kenny Brito to earn a 5-2 win to cap off a perfect tournament.
Up next, the LA Galaxy Special Olympics Unified Team, presented by Herbalife, will travel to Miami to face Inter Miami CF on August 16 at Chase Stadium prior to the first team’s match.
