LOS ANGELES (Monday, Nov. 22, 2021) – The LA Galaxy will open their 2022 MLS regular season campaign by playing host to New York City FC at Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 2:00 p.m. PT, it was announced today as MLS unveiled details for each club’s home-opening match.

The Galaxy’s entire 2022 MLS regular season schedule, with kickoff times and broadcast details, will be announced at a later date as part of the league’s full schedule announcement. 

The Feb. 27 match marks the 14th time the Galaxy open their home schedule against an Eastern Conference opponent. Since 1996, LA holds a 16-8-2 record in 26 MLS home openers. Additionally, the Galaxy will serve as the opponent in the home opener for expansion side Charlotte FC, with LA set to face the new Eastern Conference club on Saturday, March 5, at 5:00 p.m. PT at Bank of America Stadium. 

To best align with the 2022 international calendar, the MLS regular season will run through Decision Day, the regular season finale, on Sunday, Oct. 9. Following three consecutive weeks of Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs action, MLS Cup will be played on Saturday, Nov. 5, more than two weeks prior to the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Nov. 21 and more than a week prior to the player release date on Nov. 14.
