LA Galaxy II (7-2-8, 29 points) head north on Saturday to face Portland Timbers 2 (5-9-3, 18 points) in the two sides’ first matchup of the 2016 season. Los Dos are 1-1-4 on the road in 2016, their only road winning coming back on April 30 against Rio Grande Valley FC.
But things have been worse for Timbers 2, who are 1-5-1 on the road this season. In games away from home, they’ve scored four goals and been shut out five times. In total, their 16 goals on the season is tied for the fewest in the Western Conference.
Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for Los Dos this season. They lead the Western Conference with 33 goals scored with help from the league’s leading goalscorer Jack McBean (13 goals). McBean was signed to LA Galaxy on June 22, and stepping in his place up front has been Adonis Amaya who has scored in consecutive starts for LA Galaxy II.

Heading into the match, Los Dos are unbeaten in their last seven games and sit 3rd in the USL Western Conference table with 29 points behind Sacramento Republic FC (29 points, 8 wins) and Vancouver Whitecaps FC (32 points).

LAST MATCH

LA Galaxy II 2 | Orange County Blues FC 1: LA Galaxy II defeated Orange County Blues FC2-1 behind goals from Adonis Amaya and Jack McBean. For the second straight match and in his second straight start, forward Adonis Amaya opened the scoring for Los Dos. After gaining possession in their own half, Jaime Villarreal sent a near half-field ball straight up the middle of the field to Amaya. Amaya chested the ball forward in stride, took a touch and put the ball near post past Orange County’s Joshua Cohen for his second goal on the season. LA earned a penalty in the 78th minute that Jack McBean converted to give them enough space to see out the result and earn three points.

Portland Timbers 2 1 | Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC 1: T2 (5-9-3, 18pts) enter this weekend’s home contest looking to build on their 1-1 draw against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Merlo Field on July 7. After Colorado Springs opened the scoring in the 16th minute off a header from inside the box, T2 leveled the match late in the second half. After the Switchbacks goalkeeper attempted to punch away T2 midfielder Neco Brett’s delivery into the box, forward Kharlton Belmar notched his third goal of the season when he was first to the rebound and slotted in a right-footed finish from close range in the 87th minute. T2 goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh finished the match with a game-high five saves, including a tipped save over his right post in the ninth minute on a long-range shot from outside the box.
