Saturday’s match marks just the third all-time meeting between the Galaxy and San Diego FC, since the latter joined MLS as an expansion club in 2025. The two sides first met in the opening match of the 2025 season, with the reigning MLS Cup champion Galaxy falling 2-0 at Dignity Health Sports Park. SDFC followed that result with a 2-1 victory in the return fixture at Snapdragon Stadium in May, with current Galaxy Designated Player Hirving “Chucky” Lozano scoring the stoppage time match winning goal for San Diego. As the Galaxy look for their first win in the series, much of the attention will center on the Mexican international who was signed as San Diego FC’s first Designated Player ahead of its inaugural season before joining the Galaxyon loan during the summer of 2026. Saturday’s matchup will mark Lozano’s first meeting against his former club and the first clash between the teams this season.
