LA Galaxy vs San Diego FC

Saturday's match marks the fourth all-time meeting between the LA Galaxy and San Diego FC since the expansion club entered MLS in 2025. The Galaxy will be searching for their first result in the series after San Diego won both meetings during its inaugural season and claimed the first matchup of 2026 in August. The most recent meeting was highlighted by Hirving "Chucky" Lozano's return to San Diego after joining the Galaxy earlier this year. Although San Diego earned the victory, Lozano found the scoresheet against his former club. The Mexican international, however, will miss Saturday's match after suffering an injury while on international duty during the October international break. With just weeks remaining in the regular season, Saturday's match carries significant playoff implications, as San Diego enters the weekend four points behind the Galaxy in a tightly contested Western Conference race where every result could prove decisive in the battle for postseason positioning.

LA Galaxy Recent Results

Following a successful month of September in which LA picked up 10 points from their five matches, the Galaxy have gone 1-1-0 so far in the month of October. Following the international break to start the month, the Galaxy returned to MLS action, falling to St. Louis CITY SC on the road despite goals from João Klauss and Robert Taylor. Earlier this week, the Blue, White, and Gold got back in the win column, earning a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over the Portland Timbers behind goals from Marco Reus and Justin Haak.

Standout Performances

Several Galaxy players have found form at a crucial point in the season. While Kyōgo Furuhashi and Hirving Lozano remain sidelined through injury, the return of Designated Player Joseph Paintsil and the recent resurgence of Designated Player João Klauss have provided a timely boost to LA's attack. Klauss has scored in three of his last four matches since returning from injury, while Robert Taylor has recorded a goal contribution in four consecutive games, tallying one goal and three assists during that span. Marco Reus continued his strong run with a goal and an assist in Wednesday's win over Portland, giving him eight goal contributions in his last seven matches and involvement in 19 of LA's 41 league goals this season. Defensively, goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski earned his fourth clean sheet of the campaign against the Timbers, while center back Justin Haak has delivered at both ends of the field, scoring twice in the Galaxy's last three matches.

LA Galaxy Legend Gyasi Zardes Retires

Last month, LA Galaxy Academy product and Homegrown player Gyasi Zardes announced his retirement from professional soccer, bringing a distinguished 13-year MLS career to a close. A Hawthorne, California native, Zardes recorded 40 goals and 22 assists in 154 appearances across all competitions during his five seasons with the LA Galaxy from 2013-17. He played a key role in the club's 2014 MLS Cup championship run, scoring a then-MLS Homegrown record 16 regular-season goals and becoming the first Homegrown player in league history to score in an MLS Cup Final. The 2015 MLS All-Star remains the Galaxy's all-time Homegrown leader in appearances, goals and assists and currently ranks ninth in club history in regular-season goals scored. Over his MLS career with the Galaxy, Columbus Crew, Colorado Rapids and Austin FC, Zardes totaled 122 goals in all competitions, won MLS Cup titles in 2014 and 2020, and earned 68 caps with 14 goals for the U.S. Men's National Team. Zardes will be recognized during the match and participate in a fan meet-and-greet before the match on Saturday.
