Separated by one point in the Western Conference standings, a home playoff game could be decided Wednesday night at Rio Tinto Stadium when Real Salt Lake host the LA Galaxy.
Real Salt Lake (14-12-5) are in fifth place in the West, but just three points above the playoff line following a 0-0 draw against the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium Saturday night. Damir Kreilach had the best chance for a heavily-rotated RSL with a 75th-minute free kick that caromed off the Revs wall.
A week after sitting below the playoff line, the Galaxy (15-13-3) moved up to fourth place in the West following a 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact Saturday night in Carson. Lassi Lappalainen canceled out Zlatan Ibrahimovic's first-half goal with an equalizer three minutes into the second half, but Uriel Antuna scored the decisive goal two minutes later with Cristian Pavon picking up a second assist of the game.
This is the second meeting between the clubs this year with the Galaxy winning 2-1 at Dignity Health Sports Complex April 28 with Ibrahimovic scoring the winning goal in the 78th minute. Donny Toia leveled 14 minutes earlier after Antuna put the hosts in front on 16 minutes.
