LA Galaxy Postgame QuotesĀ

LA Galaxy Head Coach Greg VanneyĀ

OnĀ not losing theĀ momentumĀ the team has been building:Ā

ā€œWe'll see how much momentum we lost becauseĀ reallyĀ it will beĀ determinedĀ by how we respond to this gameĀ inĀ the grand scheme of things if we can get back on track. We certainlyĀ lost some momentum tonight. The level at which I felt likeĀ we'veĀ been competing and playing the last few gamesĀ wasn'tĀ the level that we matched tonight. And so hopefully now we get a little bit of a quick wake-up call and say we've got to shake out of it, and we've got to show up because we've got a tough game here in a couple days, and we want to finish thisĀ first part of the season as strong asĀ possible.ā€Ā

On the strategyĀ behind the halftime substitution:Ā Ā

ā€œI wanted to get Joe [Paintsil] out wide and move Marco into the nineĀ [position]. NasciĀ wasn'tĀ ready for enough minutes yet. So, we knew we would getĀ himĀ on [the field]Ā down the stretch. But I wanted to get Joe in a wide position and see if he could get running towards the goal a little bit more, faced up, going one-on-one. I thought he had his best actions through the second half when he was in those wide positions.Ā He had set up a number of good chances we probably could have and should haveĀ scored on.Ā And then allow MarcoĀ to come off and help the midfield a little bit. Getting Elijah in there made usĀ just a little more durable in the midfieldĀ inĀ some of the competitive moments.
So, I was just trying to change the control of midfield a little bit but also get Joe in a position where he was attacking fromĀ theĀ outside in andĀ facing their back line more often.ā€Ā

LA GalaxyĀ Midfielder Erik ThommyĀ

On returning to Kansas City and facing his old team:Ā Ā

ā€œIt'sĀ always good to be back. A lot of friends over there, a lot of good people working for the club [and the] organization. Yeah, I mean, obviously, if the resultĀ would haveĀ been different, then I would have been muchĀ more happyĀ than I am now, but when it comes to the people,Ā I'mĀ very gladĀ and happy thatĀ I'mĀ back.ā€Ā

OnĀ playing alongside Gabriel Pec:Ā

ā€œWhen it comes to Pec,Ā JoeĀ andĀ evenĀ MarcoĀ everybody knows that these players can always beĀ dangerousĀ over 90 minutes and itĀ doesn'tĀ matter if they cannot find the right execution in theĀ first 60 minutes,Ā they'reĀ going to alwaysĀ beĀ dangerous.Ā WeĀ [have]Ā playedĀ several gamesĀ nowĀ together,Ā andĀ [Pec]Ā isĀ really importantĀ forĀ us.Ā Really importantĀ because mentality wise,Ā he'sĀ fresh forĀ 90 minutesĀ and he wantsĀ to help theĀ teamĀ where he can. Obviously, he scoredĀ today again.Ā ObviouslyĀ itĀ was notĀ enoughĀ forĀ the team, but personally, I hope that heĀ continuesĀ to perform like that, continuesĀ to help us with the goals, assists,Ā and alsoĀ the way he plays, and needs to stayĀ healthy as well, because ifĀ he'sĀ Ā fit, he can help us.ā€Ā

OnĀ his fitness levels after returning from injury:Ā Ā

ā€œEvery trainingĀ session isĀ really importantĀ for me. Every game, every minute. I think I couldĀ playĀ 20 minutes against Atlanta [and] today a little bit more. In between, weĀ haven'tĀ hadĀ a lot of training sessions, so every dayĀ it'sĀ important for me. I feel much better and hopefullyĀ nextĀ game will be more [minutes].
When it comes to the minutes, right now I feelĀ pretty goodĀ andĀ hope to help the teamĀ wherever I can, wherever the coach isĀ goingĀ toĀ put me.ā€
