LOS ANGELES (September 12, 2026) – The LA Galaxy (7-10-9, 30 points) drew 1-1 against Western Conference side Seattle Sounders FC (7-9-7, 28 points) at Dignity Health Sports Park. Marco Reus' first-half penalty gave the Galaxy a 1-0 advantage at the break, but the Sounders found a late equalizer to split the points.
Goalscoring Plays
LA – Marco Reus (penalty), 44th minute: After Hirving Lozano was brought down in the box and a penalty was awarded to the Galaxy, Reus converted from the spot, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to give LA a 1-0 lead.
SEA – Paul Arriola (Jordan Morris), 81st minute: The Sounders worked the ball down the right side before Morris chipped a cross to the back post, where Arriola arrived to tap in the equalizer.
Postgame Notes
- LA Galaxy forward and Designated Player João Klauss made his return to the pitch as a second-half substitute in the 67th minute tonight, his first game action since suffering a foot injury against FC Dallas in Frisco, Texas on April 18.

On if it’s one of those nights where you think you did enough to get three points, but you walk out with one:
“I was always a little bit concerned that we hadn't done quite enough in terms of putting the ball in the back of the net. I thought we had several good chances, some that looked like they were going to be very promising and maybe didn't finish quite as promising. I was really hoping and pushing for the second goal. We've given up goals this year, so I wanted the second goal. But I thought by and large we had things mostly under control. They were getting some shots, but nothing that I felt was overly really problematic. I thought when we came out in the second half, our wingers were defending a little lower than we wanted them to, which was then inviting more on top of us, and we ended up deeper than I would have liked us to be in the second half. Because I think, you know, in here we've talked about second halves being slow starts, and I think part of that was we became. More passive defensively than we wanted to, so I think they ended up on top of us a little bit in the first part of the second half. I think we were working our way out of it and started to build a little bit more into it. And then giving up the goal. It's a goal I also don't think we should give up. I know we close, we get to the inside, but if we just keep our line together and close it off and kind of drop with them as he cuts inside, I feel like we should be able to deal with that play, and we didn't. So that's why I wanted the second goal because I just feel like we've got to make sure that through ninety minutes we don't give up anything, we don't give up plays, and we didn't. So that's disappointing.”
On Lucas Calegari's performance in his 2026 debut for the LA Galaxy:
"I thought for a first game and coming back to a league and in a team, I thought he was really good. I thought really stable. We remembered what he was like when he was here before. Good defender, makes good defensive decisions. Good on the ball. So I liked what he did tonight. I think it's something that is going to be important for us as we continue to bring Harbor [Miller] along. I think he's a nice balance to Harbor, but also can help Harbor because I think some of the things that Lucas's experience has taught him over the years are things that Harbor is going to learn. And he can learn from Lucas as well. But Lucas isn't the attacker that Harbor is either. So they're a little bit different in that regard. But he was a nice piece. It was good to see him settle in so quickly. I think that's important when you get new players that he shows he's ready to go right off the bat."
On Erik Thommy's contributions to the midfield:
“I think what he's given us in the last couple of starts for him is that he's extremely mobile. He covers ground. He gets on the ball. He plays and he moves and he takes the ball on the move. It creates some mobility inside of the group. I think their roles are pretty clear. Sergi [Roberto] is holding a little bit more. Erik is being able to be a little bit more two-way. He gives us the guy who can stay a little higher so we can look like a 4-3-3 at times, or he can come down a little lower and it can look like a double pivot. He gives us some versatility, which allows Marco [Reus] sometimes to stay a bit higher. The one thing that Erik is, is very mobile. He doesn't like to stand still very much. Sometimes I think that's a lot of movement, and sometimes I think it's good that he's moving. So I think for us it's just continuing to find the balance. Because what I say to the guys, it's the game is always about being at the right place at the right time when something needs to happen, when a possession needs to turn into an attack. And so for Erik, that's the biggest thing. He brings us mobility. The key is arriving into the right spots at the right time, so it's as effective as we can to turn a possession into an attack and an attack into a chance and goal and so on and so forth. But I think he's brought a lot of comfort on the ball, and I do. The question I had going into it, if I'm being quite honest, is the three of them defensively in the middle of the park, and he's done a good job of giving it that balance that he's a guy who has been able to recover some balls and win some balls, which I didn't necessarily know was going to be a strength of his, and to be determined because that's what we gotta figure out in terms of that trio.”

On the playoff race in the Western Conference:
“We're all fully aware of the situation. I think even when you say that the table hasn't shifted much, we know that we've played one or two more games than all the other teams. So, we're not looking past that. We know exactly how the situation is, and everybody is on board to keep fighting and not give up. Because honestly, I believe. We do have a very good roster, a very good team, and we put together moments where we show that, and then sometimes we let it slip away, and it's really just about getting rid of those moments.”
On the positives the team can take away from tonight:
“I agree with you. And honestly, it's tough to say that there were a lot of positives with how the game finished. But I think if you look at the amount of chances we created, they didn't have really too many chances. I can remember off the top of my head that, I think the offside goal was a close one, but other than that, I feel like we dominated most of the game. We definitely felt like the start of the second half, we were a little bit too deep and kind of went away from what we were doing so well in the first half. But those types of shifts can happen in the game sometimes. I do think when I look around the locker room, I take a lot of confidence with the players that we have here, and that there's a lot of experience.”
On the connection being built within the team and the new players:
“I do think the connections are growing. Sergi is helping a lot in the middle. I think Lucas has played a very good game, especially having such limited time with us as a team. He looked pretty comfortable going forward. He brought a lot of good energy, and I would agree with you that the final pass wasn't there. And sometimes even it was just the final finish, where we did find the right pass in the end, but the finish was just a little bit off. But I would say, especially being from the back, I can see the connections very well, and I would say we did a good job.”

“So, I think the people who work here have a lot of affection for me and my family. Since the first day I came here, my family and I felt at home. Their treatment of my kids and my family was amazing, and it's very important for me.”
On what the team is capable of this season:
“We have a lot of great players and a big potential to finish the season the way this club deserves. I think we have big potential to go into the playoffs and make it to the final, maybe because we have a lot of great players. I think we had a busy week and some players are coming [together]. Adaptation is not always easy, but in my opinion, we can do better and go into the playoffs.”
On getting to know his teammates and being a leader:
“I need to know my teammates as best as I can because we have only eight games to finish the league, and this part of the league. I think the most important part now is out of the pitch. I need to talk to them to know each other, for when the games come, we match in the game. We know the movements, know where I pass one, where he wants me to pass. I think it's hard to come missing up only eight games, but I think I can adapt fast and know my new teammates and help the club go to playoffs.”
