Robbie Keane called up to Ireland National Team for UEFA EURO 2016 playoff with Bosnia

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, Nov. 9, 2015) – LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane has been called up to Ireland for a UEFA European Championship 2016 playoff series against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, Nov. 13 and Monday, Nov. 16. The winner of the two-legged series will earn a spot in the 2016 UEFA European Championship in France.


Ireland will travel to Bilino Polje Stadium in Zenica for the Nov. 13 game against Bosnia and Herzegovina (11:45 a.m. PT, ESPN, ESPN Deportes) before returning to Ireland for the second leg of the playoff on Nov. 16 at Aviva Stadium in Dublin (11:45 a.m. PT, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports Deportes).


Keane helped Ireland to a third place finish in Group D with 18 points during the EUFA EURO 2016 qualifying campaign, finishing only behind Germany (22 points) and Poland (21 points). They will now face Bosnia and Herzegovina, which finished in third place in Group B in the qualifiers behind Belgium and Wales.


Keane, 35, is Ireland’s captain and leader for the most goals and appearances all time for his country. The Galaxy forward finished the MLS season with the 20 goals, his highest total of any season with LA. In his LA Galaxy career, the Designated Player has scored 73 goals and recorded 43 assists in 108 MLS matches.
