CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the LA Galaxy’s scoreless draw with Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
GALAXY ATTACK FALLS FLAT TO CLOSE OUT POOR AUGUST
The LA Galaxy put in one of their more disjointed offensive showings of 2016 in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The Galaxy never really found their attacking rhythm as the team struggled to break down Kendall Waston and a stout Vancouver defense. The Galaxy’s distribution was poor throughout the match, forcing Dos Santos to drop deep into midfield in an attempt to kick-start a stagnant offense and leaving Alan Gordon isolated.
Bruce Arena’s men improved in the closing moments of the second half as they pushed for a winner, but they were unable to beat Ousted and seal all three points. The Galaxy’s showing closes a dire month of August that saw the team go winless in six games and chalk up a less-than-ideal 0-2-4 record. Los Angeles’ last win came way back on July 23rd against the Portland Timbers.
INJURY BUG STRIKES THE GALAXY HARD
Bruce Arena saw two key players suffer injuries in the first half of the Galaxy’s match with Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Steven Gerrard was the first to go down in the 31st minute with an apparent hamstring issue. Minutes later, Jelle Van Damme, who had played every minute in the Galaxy’s recent road trip, was forced to exit with a left knee injury.
Perhaps the only positive of the injuries is the timing, as the two veterans will have a full week to recover before the Galaxy return to action next week against Columbus Crew SC. After Saturday’s frustrating performance, Arena will hope to have the two back in the fold as soon as possible.
WELCOME BACK, BRIAN ROWE!
Goalkeeper Brian Rowe enjoyed a successful return to action in the LA Galaxy’s clash with Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
In his first start since suffering a head injury on August 13, Rowe was his old reliable self in goal against Vancouver. Aside from a flubbed clearance in the first half, Rowe put in a solid shift in net, making two saves on Saturday.
With Clement Diopseeing action with Galaxy II tonight, don’t expect Rowe to give up his starting position anytime soon.
